Château de Vaudieu – Châteauneuf du Pape AOC

Laurent and Julien BréchetThe family Bréchet.

julienbrechet@famillebrechet.fr
The winery is established in the middle of the 70 hectares of Châteauneuf du Pape vineyards.
Château Vaudieu (dale of God) is the pattern of the family Bréchet. Our « Terroir » is made of 7 different grounds. The estate belong to the family for 5 generations of winemaker descending from Mr Gabriel Meffre who bought the estate in 1955. Since, the family tends to highlight the potential of this outstanding domain, which was already a star in the 19th century.

Since 2003 the winery has been doing a great stride in the reorganization and production: adapted works according to the nature of our different parcels, vinification and ageing.

We owe this improvement to Mr Philippe Combe who helped us to rise Vaudieu among the best producers of the appellation. The last vintages are today defended by a few famous tasters as Jancis Robinson, John Livingstone and Robert Parker. Vaudieu might be one of the good surprise for the comming millennium.
The visit start in the oldest room of the château : the first place to be inhabited, 4 centuries ago. During the visit in the sizeable cellar, explanations are given about our rich variety of « terroirs », grapes and winemaking. We also speek about wine ageing, in the 28 m underground galery, devoted to barrels, which was the very first room for vinification in the 17th century. We, of course finish, with a tasting of various wines available at the cellar, with Julien, one of the two brothers in charge of the estate.

Châteauneuf du Pape white
One of the most famous white in the appellation. Its the result of a real white wine process approach. We are trying to concentrate into flavours the rare nature of a grey limestone and well exposed ground. Fulbodied and rich when it’s young, this wine develop a lovely harmony after 5 years. Thank to the nice acidity and minerality balance, it can be appreciated up to its 15th year. ( 80% Grenache White, matured in stainless steel tanks – 15% Roussanne, 5% Clairette/Picardan partly aged in oak10%)

Châteauneuf du Pape red
A very elegant wine, thanks to the sandy nature of the soils : that’s a rich, suave and generous wine. Early ready to drink thanks to an appropriate maturation in barrel, it can also be tasted until 15 years. (80% Grenache Noir matured 15 to 18 months concrete in tanks, 15% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre – aged in new and one year old oak barrels)

Châteauneuf du Pape red – cuvée « Val de Dieu »
A wine for philosophers, no compromise for its elaboration. The family Bréchet wants to make THE BEST wine ever done in Vaudieu with this Cuvée. This exceptional ageing pontential (more than 20 years long) is the result of the oldest vines, producing an extremly deep, racy and very well balanced style. (60% Grenache Noir, 25% Syrah,15% Mourvèdre 18 months of ageing in « demi-muids » 600 l oak barrels)
