Mistral

Mistral :
Name of a wind blowing in the Rhône valley. Quite unpredictable wind, it is dominating the country as a master. Provence is suffering the Mistral, at least for a third of the year, during any season, it is blowing as well as in summer or in winter. Making gust, it is a violent and cold wind, drying everything, and "cleaning" the sky of clouds then avoiding moisture and rot, making the Rhône delta as a paradise for agriculture…and for grape growing ! Unfortunately, the temperature drop suddenly between 5° to 10° C, which is very comfortable in summer, but hard in winter, exceptionnally blowing more than a week. Population adapted to it through the centuries, architecture, rows of cypress trees as wind break…are just few examples, but we owe to its overwhelming presence, the average of 300 sunny days in a year.
