Vermentino

Rolle or Vermentino
Vermentino is a late-ripening white grape originating in Spain and now widely planted in and the coastal arc running from Spain to Italy, in southern France, around Nice. It is thought to be related to the Malvasia variety and to have been have been brought to Italy in the fifteenth century during the period of Spanish domination.
Main features : The leaves are dark green and pentagonal. The grapes are amber-yellow and hang in pyramidal bunches.
Oenological potential : The vines are often grown on slopes facing the sea or on hot and dry slopes where they can benefit from the additional reflected light. The dry white wines, light and well bodied with a pale yellow color, impart hawthorn, ripe pear, pineapple, sometimes we could ask for more acidity.
Use :The most famous wine made from Vermentino is probably in Provence or close to Nice, the grape is used for the AOC white wines of Bellet. We fin dit in Languedoc in blending, and in Roussillon under the name Malvoisie à gros grains.
